Healing Mind, Body and Soul
I have enjoyed the privilege of helping people over the last 25 years. It has been a source of tremendous satisfaction and a huge influence on my personal psychological and spiritual development.
My formal training in Psychology began at the University of Toronto (Bachelor of Science in Psychology) and continued at the Adler Institute of Professional Psychology in Toronto and Chicago (Master of Arts in Counselling Psychology.)
Since my graduation in 1997 I have been involved with the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health, Mount Sinai Hospital, Women’s College Hospital, and more recently in Private Practice in Victoria, BC at Soulstir Counselling)
Over the years my therapeutic style has been shaped by a variety of counselling approaches: from Psychodynamic and Jungian, Gestalt, Humanistic and Interpersonal, to Art therapy and Mindfulness among others. In recent years a special interest of mine has been body-focused psychotherapy, namely Hakomi and Sensorimotor Psychotherapy.
Sensorimotor Psychotherapy, (developed by Dr. Pat Ogden), aims to heal the disconnection between mind and body, especially relevant in cases of psychological trauma. While training in this modality, which borrows from Buddhist Contemplative Practice, I became interested and eventually received training in Buddhist Meditation (Gampo Abbey) and Hatha Yoga (Sivananda Vedanta Centre), which now broadly influence my psychotherapy practice in Victoria.
For over 6 years I have trained with two beautiful Hakomi teachers, Bob Milone and Marcia Burton. Hakomi is a body focused and mindfulness based approach that primarily cultivates and uses a particular state of mind of the therapist, namely Loving Presence, as its main healing axis.
For 6-7 years my personal and professional journey has led me to immensely powerful, wise and full of heart indigenous practices, and study with an elder from the Siksika/Sauk Blackfeet tradition, Duncan Grady. Working with elements of ritual, sacred ceremony, plant medicines for spiritual journeys has been a life changing experience, and I am moved to share these offerings whenever appropriate with humbleness and gratitude.
As a result of nearly 10 years of exploring and learning from plant medicines and man made psychodelics (in the context of more traditional shamanic ceremonies as well as in group journeys that employed a more focused guidance for spiritual exploration in the style of Ralph Metzner) my personal healing expanded like no other method I previously engages with, my connection to Spirit world has strengthened, and my worldview and my work in the world ultimately changed rather dramatically in a relatively short time.
As a direct result, I have been inspired to offer psychodelic integration and retreats for individuals and retreat groups.
