As an adult I rediscovered the fun of playing with shapes and colours during courses in art therapy in my graduate school.  Then I rediscovered it again doodling in my journals...the doodles eventually spilled onto canvasses and somewhere along the lines, the creative juice spilled into my life. Since then it went like this: creative spill, followed by a dry spell..spill..spell..spill..
